I just got back from my "Fall Fling" with my Dad, Brother and Sister-in-law. My Mom started the family tradition of having a "Fall Fling". Some people call it a fall foliage tour. My family calls it a "Fall Fling". We went up into northern Missoui to an Old Order Amish community of Jamesport, MO. The countryside was full of beautiful fall leaves, fields of corn ready for harvest, rolling green hills with cattle grazing and the sounds of the clip-clap of the Amish horse and buggies. We also spent a day in Stanberry, MO stomping on the very ground where my Grandmother Hildred Smith Nixon grew up. We were in the very HEARTLAND of AMERICA! I was reminded in my heart of how blessed that I am to have been born an American and to have been born to Christian parents, whose parents were Christians. The song, "America the Beautiful" kept going through my head as we drove the backroads of Missouri...
AMERICA the BEAUTIFUL
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace of thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassion'd stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness.
America! America!
God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law.
O beautiful for heroes prov'd
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life.
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine.
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears.
America! America!

Beautiful it is! The backroads of America can really tell stories we can only hope to remember to tell our kids about. I bet you did see some amazing countryside. Glad you had a good time.
